Cambodia Branding

This purpose of this student project was to brand and promote tourism in Cambodia. I was tasked with creating branding, a brand guide, and applying it to merchandise. For this project, I also created a hand drawn illustration and graphics for a visual theme.

Duration: 2 months

Role: Designer

Challenge: Because I had never been and couldn’t visit Cambodia, a lot of secondary research needed to be done to figure out how to promote tourism.

Solution: I referenced books, movies and the internet to do as much research as possible. The target market for this project was people that practice Buddhism, people looking to achieve enlightenment, yoga practitioners and wellness and retreat seekers.

Brand Guidelines

These brand guidelines were meant to be used internally, but can be used when working with freelancers as well. We want the brand to be consistent to draw people in for tourism in Cambodia.

My Process

Below you can see my process. I created a mind map and word lists to brainstorm ideas. This made the sketching go a lot quicker. After that, I sketched out several ideas. I chose eight to be reviewed by classmates. With that feedback I narrowed it down again and created four logo comps. The final logo was chosen from those four options.

Possibilities for Future Iterations

Future iterations of this project might include:
  • Specifics on text formatting for the brand guide, such as, size, leading and width for print and digital
  • Stickers
  • A website
  • A Travel or Yoga app
